Dear Family,
This week is transfers. I am staying in Sumter and the other three guys in my apartment are leaving. I am really going to miss them. One of them, Elder Haslem my MTC companion, has been in Sumter for six months, so it was about time for him to go. The other two, Elder Jones and Elder Read, had only been in Sumter for one transfer. I was surprised to find out that Elder Jones and Elder Read where being transferred. I am going to miss my companion Elder Jones. He is a pretty cool guy. This week we started working with a cool part member family, the Owen family. Sister Owen decided a few days after the death of her sister that she wanted to join the church. We have a few people coming up for baptism - we hope to baptize a lady named Shakina next week. Elder Haslem found Shakina in February and has taught her everything. She just needs to come to church one more time and be interviewed. She has been having problems with her foot that has prevented her from coming to church and being baptized. We pray that her foot is getting better.
The other Elders were able to get bikes to ride for the rest of their missions after some searching. Elder Haslem is riding a Giant Ricon XL that was found in a missionary apartment in Lake Murry and Elder Read was able to buy a pretty nice bike from a pawn shop for a reasonable price. They have not heard about their old bikes from anyone.
Saturday night my companion and I were kneeling on the floor for our prayer to start our planning session when we realized that the carpet was soaked. We looked around and couldn't figure out where the water had come from for the longest time. Then we looked in the heating and cooling closet and saw the problem, our air handling unit started leaking condensation from a tube. We think that the main drain might be clogged so the water is coming out of the over flow. We didn't want to call our land lord Sunday morning so Saturday night, to stop the water from dripping on the ground and soaking the carpet, we hooked one end of a cut up bike tire tube to the end of the over flow and put the other end into a two gallon tub. By Sunday night the basin was half full of condensation the AC unit pulled out of the air. Hopefully we can get it sorted out with the land lord today.
Did you forward the contact information and where they able to get a hold of who they needed?
Love,
Elder Calvin Smith
